Friday Reflection

Daily Gospel Reflections – Good Friday April 10th  2020

Gospel – The Passion of our Lord

Reading 2                                             HEB 4:14-16; 5:7-9

Brothers and sisters:
Since we have a great high priest who has passed through the heavens,
Jesus, the Son of God,
let us hold fast to our confession.
For we do not have a high priest
who is unable to sympathize with our weaknesses,
but one who has similarly been tested in every way,
yet without sin.
So let us confidently approach the throne of grace
to receive mercy and to find grace for timely help.

In the days when Christ was in the flesh,
he offered prayers and supplications with loud cries and tears
to the one who was able to save him from death,
and he was heard because of his reverence.
Son though he was, he learned obedience from what he suffered;
and when he was made perfect,
he became the source of eternal salvation for all who obey him.

Dear Friends and Family,

On Good Friday we focus upon the cross of our Lord Jesus Christ. His journey to the cross is proclaimed in Scripture, and in ritual we venerate the cross. The passion is powerful in its words and images. In this supreme act of love for his sheep, Jesus lays down his life for us. Let us turn our attention to the book of Hebrew, which states, “For we do not have a high priest who is unable to sympathize with our weakness.”  Friends, our God knows our struggles because he sent his Son to come among us. In his humanity, Jesus has experienced the joys and the sorrows of life.  He stands with us today as our mediator, and he goes to incredible lengths to bring about our salvation.

The passion of Christ is that perfect act of a loving God. Jesus longs for our redemption.  So today let us take comfort knowing our God will let nothing stand in the way of our salvation.  The only thing that remains for you and for me, is that we accept His great love.  Tonight let us accept his love, surrender to his mercy, and humbly bow at the foot of the cross that saves us.
